On Feb. 1, the series will kick off with Mary McGarry Morris (MSJ ‘60), acclaimed novelist. Ms. McGarry Morris has authored numerous books and received countless prestigious awards, such as the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award. Her book “A Dangerous Woman” was one of Time Magazine’s “Five Best Novels of the Year” in 1991, while her novel “Songs In Ordinary Time” was found at the top of the New York Times Best Sellers List in1995. One book was made into a major motion picture, while the other was made into a CBS television movie. This past September, Ms. McGarry Morris published yet another novel, which is entitled “Light from a Distant Star.”
Admission for the event with Ms. McGarry Morris will be $10. Tickets will be available in advance at MSJ, Book King, Annie’s Book Stop, or at the door.

RUTLAND--All interested families are welcome to visit Christ the King School and Mount St. Joseph Academy during the schools’ upcoming winter open houses.
Mount St. Joseph Academy, located on Convent Avenue in Rutland, will host its open house on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. MSJ welcomes new students and transfer students to apply for its college preparatory program. In 2011, 100 percent of MSJ’s graduating class was admitted to four-year colleges. The class received $548,900 in college scholarships.
Christ the King School’s open house will take place on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 5:30 p.m., at its campus at 60 South Main St. in Rutland. This is an opportunity for families to learn more about children attending CKS as a new pre-K student or kindergartener, or as a transfer student through eighth grade. CKS was founded in 1886 and has provided an excellent Catholic education in the Rutland region for 125 years. CKS also offers both after-school and before-school care programs.
The schools provide small classes, opportunities to thrive in sports and the arts and a caring, family-type atmosphere. Tuition assistance programs are available.
