Memorial Day Mass to be celebrated at Resurrection Park Cemetery

SOUTH BURLINGTON—The annual Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in Resurrection Park Cemetery. Bishop Salvatore R. Matano, Bishop of Burlington, will celebrate the Mass. Gary Moreau will lead the singing.

Bring a chair and an umbrella for shade if necessary.

Parking is available in the cemetery or at St. John Vianney Church adjacent to Resurrection Park Cemetery.

In the event of rain, Mass will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church.

K of C breakfast

ST. ALBANS—There will be a K of C breakfast at the Knights of Columbus Hall 242 South Main St., on Sunday, May 19, from 8 a.m.-noon. The cost is $7 per person, children under 12 free. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, plain and blueberry pancakes, biscuit and gravy, home fries, fruit and beverages. For more information, call 524-1492.

Prayer of St. Francis to guide 2013 appeal

‘‘For it is in giving that we receive.’’

These words from the Prayer of St. Francis are the theme of this year’s Bishop’s Fund campaign.

It reflects the spirit of generosity of Vermont Catholics who have for years supported the campaign that funds myriad spiritual, catechetical, and social ministries of the Church in Vermont.

The theme also acknowledges the newly elected Pope Francis and his concern that no one be forgotten or left uncared for.

‘‘By choosing the name Francis, our new Holy Father, Pope Francis, draws our attention to the life of St. Francis (of Assisi) who was attentive to the needs of others by a life of charity,’’ said Justin G. Wicks, director of development and stewardship for the Diocese of Burlington, who oversees the operations and strategic management of the Bishop’s Fund.

The goal of this year’s Bishop’s Fund campaign is set at $2.95 million, the same as last year.

The first phase of the 2013 campaign began with The Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the diocesan center in South Burlington in April and May, followed by three Masses on each of the weekends of May 25 and 26 and June 1 and 2 throughout the diocese. Solicitation letters will be mailed to Vermont Catholics after the kickoff Masses.

The Bishop’s Fund is the main source of financial support for the many vital apostolates throughout the diocese, including Catholic education for all ages. These programs include: Totus Tuus, a
